Thanks for attending the session. Here you’ll find more information on the topic.

6 Steps to Success

1
Convey the meaning of the new word
in a context, with visuals, demos, definitions, stories to build context, collocations (and other word relationships) synonyms, opposites or realia.
1
2
Elicit the target word
if the learners do not know it, or cannot pronounce it correctly, say the word yourself
2
3
Concept check the meaning
CCQs should be easy to understand and answer. They are usually yes-no questions and do not contain the target language itself
3
4
Provide a clear model
Try to sound natural. It's always a good idea to check the words in a trustworthy dictionary before the lesson
4
5
Drill the word
You can do it chorally then individually. Adding variety in drills helps to consciously engage the learners and make the target language more memorable
5
6
Write the word
It's important to indicate the word stress, part of speech, any important phonological aspects and other relevant points. The aim is to focus students on possible difficulties with each word
